FPV stabilization
FPV stabilization for GoPro and DJI O4 footage
SyncFPV Studio steadies FPV flights from the gyro data the camera recorded, right inside the editor. Open a GoPro or DJI O4 clip and it is already smooth and lens corrected, and it stays that way through sync, color, the cut and every export.

What gyro stabilization does
While you fly, the camera logs its own rotation from a gyroscope, many times for every frame, and stores it inside the video file. SyncFPV reads that log, lines it up with the picture and turns each frame against the motion the camera measured. The result is the floating, locked in look people expect from cinematic FPV, without the warping you get from stabilizers that guess the motion from the picture.
Because the motion is measured, not guessed, it holds up where image based stabilization loses track: fast flips and power loops, dark venues, haze machines, open sky and water, and the moment a crowd fills the frame.
Supported cameras
| Camera | Record it like this |
|---|---|
| GoPro HERO5 and newer | HyperSmooth off, Wide lens (not SuperView or ultra wide), the tallest aspect ratio the camera offers |
| DJI O4 Air Unit | Electronic stabilization off, recorded to the air unit |
| DJI O4 Air Unit Pro | Electronic stabilization off, recorded to the air unit |
GoPro and DJI drone LUTs are built in, so stabilized flights go straight into the grade next to the rest of the shoot.
The four controls
Smoothness
How much motion is taken out. Push it up for long cinematic passes, bring it down to keep the snap of a freestyle line.
Cropping speed
How quickly the frame eases in and out to keep the edges hidden as the flight gets rough and calms down again.
Lens correction
Takes the fisheye out so stage truss, buildings and the skyline stay straight all the way to the corners.
Horizon
Level holds the horizon flat for reveals and passes. Free keeps every roll for freestyle. One click each.
Each one was tuned frame by frame on real flights over festival stages, car meets and open country, not on lab footage.
Why it belongs inside the editor
The usual FPV workflow renders a stabilized copy of every flight in one app, then imports those large files into another to edit. SyncFPV skips the round trip.
- Nothing to render and reimport. The steady picture is the picture you edit, grade and export.
- Plays at once. 5.3K clips play the moment they open, decoded on the graphics card, with or without stabilization.
- Every shape from one flight. Vertical, square and wide versions are framed from the stabilized picture, so a 9:16 reel is as steady as the 16:9 master.
- Change your mind late. Turn the horizon lock on in the middle of the edit and every cut and export follows.
How to record FPV footage for the best stabilization
- Turn in camera stabilization off. HyperSmooth off on GoPro, electronic stabilization off on O4. This is a must for both: the gyro data has to be the only stabilization applied.
- Use the Wide lens and the tallest frame. Stabilization rotates and crops the picture. Recording the full sensor (8:7 on recent GoPros, 4:3 on earlier ones) leaves room to turn the frame without losing the shot. Use Wide, not SuperView or an ultra wide mode.
- Record above your delivery size. 5.3K or 4K for a 4K or 1080 delivery keeps the final picture sharp after the crop.
- Keep the shutter crisp in daylight. Blur smeared into a frame by the shake stays in that frame once the shake is gone. A faster shutter keeps detail clean after stabilization.
- Stop jello at the mount. Stabilization removes shake, not vibration. Soft mount the camera and balance your props so it never reaches the sensor.
Quick answers
Does FPV stabilization cost extra?
No. Gyro stabilization for GoPro and DJI O4 is in the free version of SyncFPV, along with the timeline, color and H.264 export up to 4K with no watermark.
What if I recorded with HyperSmooth on?
The clip is already stabilized by the camera, so SyncFPV edits, grades, syncs and exports it like any other clip. Gyro stabilization is meant for flights recorded with HyperSmooth off.
Does it stabilize footage from DJI camera drones?
Gyro stabilization supports the O4 Air Unit and O4 Air Unit Pro. Footage from DJI camera drones is already steadied by the gimbal, and SyncFPV grades it with the built in DJI LUTs next to your FPV flights.
Can I keep the roll for freestyle?
Yes. Set Horizon to Free and lower Smoothness. You keep every roll and flip, without the shake.
